Action 3 - Change a Light Bulb
Why Care?

Powering up the lights requires electricity, and different kinds of light bulbs use different amounts. Being more efficient means using less, which saves money as well as the environment.

That electricity comes from power plants. Pollution from power plants contributes to a number of problems, including global warming, acid rain, and asthma. Over half of our electricity comes from burning coal, which releases toxic chemicals and waste. Mining the coal requires digging deep into the ground or stripping away tons of rock and soil. Acids from deep underground sometimes pollute streams and rivers. And those tons of stripped-away rock and soil often end up in valleys and streams, where they can seriously harm wildlife, water, and people's property.
